The group of atmospheric physics has been working at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Trento since 1996. The research activity has been focused on atmospheric dynamics with special emphasis on atmospheric phenomena typical of mountain environment.
The research work has been developed along the following lines:
Development and use of a system for airborne atmospheric measurement on a light airplane and field measurements with ground based equipment for the evaluation of atmospheric variables in connection with the development of local winds.
Identification of atmospheric flows at regional scale through analysis of time series of data collected by meteorological ground stations.
Modelling of valley winds. A hydrodynamic model of the evolution of the convective boundary layer and related wind within a valley has been developed. The model extends previous results on the diurnal evolution of an inversion capped convective boundary layer to account for the effects of a sloping valley bottom and adjacent sloping walls.
